Company Overview

Cyclacel is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery, development and commercialization of novel, mechanism-targeted drugs to treat human cancers and other serious disorders.

Cyclacel’s ALIGN Pharmaceuticals subsidiary markets directly in the U.S. Xclair™ Cream for radiation dermatitis, Numoisyn™ Liquid and Numoisyn™ Lozenges for xerostomia.

Three Cyclacel drugs are in clinical development. Sapacitabine (CYC682), an orally-available, cell cycle modulating nucleoside analog, is in Phase 2 for the treatment of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) patients with hematologic malignancies. Seliciclib (CYC202), an orally-available CDK (cyclin dependent kinase) inhibitor, is in Phase 2 for the treatment of lung cancer and is also being evaluated for nasopharyngeal cancer. CYC116, an orally-available, Aurora kinase and VEGFR2 inhibitor, is in Phase 1 in patients with solid tumors. Several additional programs are at an earlier stage. Cyclacel’s strategy is to build a diversified biopharmaceutical business focused in oncology, hematology and other therapeutic areas based on a portfolio of commercial products and a development pipeline of novel drug candidates.

Our key strengths include:

  • Senior management with extensive experience in research and preclinical, clinical development and commercialization, enabling us to capitalize on significant opportunities in new drug discovery and development;
  • Expertise in cell cycle biology that includes recognized leaders in this field;
  • Novel drugs designed to be highly selective in comparison to conventional anti-cancer therapies, with the potential to induce death in cancer cells while sparing most normal cells;
  • Deep pipeline of preclinical and clinical drug candidates and marketed producted allowing a strong position to realize significant market opportunities and continued growth;
  • Leadership as the only company currently with an orally-available CDK inhibitor in Phase 2 clinical trials.
  • Direct sales marketing capability in the US through the ALIGN subsidiary

Cyclacel was founded in 1996 by Professor Sir David Lane, a recognized leader in the field of tumor suppressor biology, who discovered the p53 protein. In 1999, Cyclacel was joined by Professor David Glover, a recognized leader in the mechanism of mitosis or cell division, who discovered, among other cell cycle targets, the mitotic kinases, Polo and Aurora, enzymes that act in the mitosis phase of the cell cycle. ALIGN was acquired in October 2007.

Cyclacel’s corporate headquarters are in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, where our business development and medical and regulatory functions are also located. The company’s primary research facility is located in Dundee, Scotland. Dundee is the main location of our structure-based drug design and preclinical activities. A second research facility is located in Cambridge, England and is home to our Polgen division, which is focused on discovering the function of new cancer genes and validating their use as potential druggable targets.
