Our continuing development has resulted in the following vacancies at our UK facility for:
Formulation Chemist – Research Scientist - Ref: RSFC1 - Dundee
In this hands on research role you will primarily be responsible for the provision of medicinal chemistry expertise to support development and discovery research. The role will involve working within multi-disciplinary programme teams.
Key aspects of this role will include:
- Determination of physico-chemical properties of novel pharmacophores and drug candidate molecules (solubility, logP, pH, etc).
- Development of preclinical formulations.
- Recommendation of clinical formulations.
- Synthesis of salt forms of candidate molecules.
- Determination of stability of formulated compounds.
- Guiding the design of pharmacophores to optimise "drug-like" properties.
This challenging role will demand:
- BSc or equivalent in the chemistry field, with post graduate experience (for Research Assistant), or
- PhD in organic/medicinal chemistry, with Postdoctoral research experience desirable but not essential (for Research Scientist)
- Familiar with modern analytical methods for compound characterisation
- Expertise in developing preclinical formulations
- Working experience in structure- and knowledge- based rational drug design
- Ability to think in an innovative and creative manner and work independently within a multi-disciplinary team

Cell Biology – Research Scientist – Ref: RSCB1 - Dundee
In this hands on research role you will primarily be responsible for the provision of cell biology expertise to support development and discovery research. The role will involve working within multi-disciplinary programme teams.
Key aspects of this role will include:
- Characterisation of discovery stage molecules by flow cytometry, and cell and molecular biology methods, to assess:
- cell cycle distribution & progression
- cell death
- marker expression
- Development and introduction of additional flow cytometry based assays/screens.
- Development of cellular reporter assays.
- Assisting with translation of fluorescence-based cellular assays to screening lab.
This challenging role will demand:
- B.Sc. or Ph.D. in Cell or Molecular Biology or other molecular life science.
- Demonstrable practical experience of:
- Flow cytometry (specifically cell cycle and apoptosis)
- Mammalian cell culture
- Recombinant DNA techniques & PCR
- Previous experience in some or all of the following would be advantageous:
- Immunostaining (Western Blotting)
- Fluorescence based assays
- Real-time PCR
- Cell cycle biology or signal transduction
- Strong communication skills
- Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office, and LIMS software

Cell Biology – Research Assistant - Ref: RACCB1 – Cambridge
In this hands on research role and working within multidisciplinary teams, you will assist the company's efforts in the development of high content cell-based assays for identifying and profiling potential drugs for clinical development.
Key aspects of this role will include:
- Development, execution and optimisation of cellular assays as part of target identification/validation and small molecule drug discovery programs
- Assay automation and maintenance of cell lines
- Managing and maintaining records of assay data
- Data analyses and communication of results in project team meetings
- Participation in laboratory maintenance.
This challenging role will demand:
- BSc or equivalent in a relevant biology related discipline, with relevant experience in an academic or preferably a pharma/biotech environment
- Familiarity with mammalian cell biology, preferably with demonstrable understanding of cell cycle biology and / or cancer biology
- Practical knowledge of cell culture methods with some working experience of immunofluorescence microscopy
- Experience in the development of cell-based assays or with automation would be an advantage
- Flexible, enthusiastic and well organised approach, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal skills, complemented by a positive, can-do attitude.
Molecular & Cell Biology – Research Assistant – Ref: RAMB1 – Dundee
In this hands on research role and working within multidisciplinary teams, you will support the company's development and discovery research.
Key aspects of this role will include:
- Cellular screening of Discovery-stage drug candidates
- Maintenance of tumour cell line panel
- Automation of existing cellular assays
- Mechanistic characterization of drug candidates.
This challenging role will demand:
- BSc / HND in cell or molecular biology, or other molecular life science.
- Demonstrable practical experience of:
- mammalian cell culture (essential)
- cytotoxicity or growth inhibition assays
- Previous experience in some or all of the following would be advantageous:
- assay automation
- flow cytometry
- PCR and recombinant DNA techniques
- Western blotting
- Immunocytochemistry
- Cell cycle biology, apoptosis or signal transduction.
- Strong communication skills
- Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office, and LIMS software

Protein Production – Research Assistant – Ref: RAPP1 - Dundee
In this hands on role and working within multidisciplinary teams, you will support the company's development and discovery research.
Key aspects of this role will include:
- Production and purification of recombinant proteins from heterologous expression systems
- Analysis of proteins produced
- Optimisation and scale-up of protein expression conditions
- Internal Quality Control of production and purification processes
- Maintenance of host cell stocks
- Organisation and maintenance of expression vectors (viral stocks and plasmids)
- Other cloning or expression work as necessary
This challenging role will demand:
- BSc / HND in molecular biology, biochemistry or other molecular life science.
- Demonstrable practical experience of:
- Expression of recombinant proteins
- Protein purification chromatography
- Previous experience in some or all of the following would be advantageous:
- Immunoblotting (Western blotting)
- Recombinant DNA techniques & PCR
- Insect cell culture
- Strong communication skills
- Computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office, and LIMS software

X-Ray Protein Crystallographers - Ref: DRXC2
In these roles, the jobholders will be responsible for running and maintaining and / or supporting the X-ray crystallographic facilities at Cyclacel including hardware and software and for the acquisition and processing of data obtained in house and at synchrotron facilities. Working within multi disciplinary teams, you will provide high quality support to the active research & development programmes of the company.
Key aspects will include:
- Responsibility for the organisation of Synchrotron time and coordinating visits to various synchrotron locations around Europe
- Advising on feasibility of crystallographic data for projects requiring structural information
- Application of ligand design and Computational Chemistry activities within Cyclacel programmes
- Development and monitoring of the crystallography budget (synchrotron, crystallography programs,licences etc)
These challenging roles will demand:
- BSc or equivalent in related scientific discipline, with post graduate experience (for Research Assistant role), or
- PhD in area related to Protein Biochemistry, with working knowledge of structure based ligand discovery and design, with a minimum of 2 years previous experience in purification, crystallization and structure determination of protein-ligand complexes.
- Proven track record in crystallography research through recent publications / presentations in reputable peer-reviewed journals or conferences
- Exceptional computer literacy with in depth working knowledge of specialised software related to discipline
- Flexible, enthusiastic and well organised, with the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent interpersonal skills, complemented by a positive, can-do attitude and proactive approach
